My thesis project, located in Newton, Massachusetts; a suburb of Boston, was focused on the area surrounding the City Hall. While Newton is composed of 13 smaller villages, each with their own city center, the City Hall area is geographically central but devoid of nearly all cultural or civic context. My mission was to create a plan for implementing that cultural context and to develop the area to create a 14th civic focused city center.

The scope of the totality of the project was much larger than I had time to fully develop within the given time frame. I therefore narrowed my focus to smaller and smaller portions as the level of detail increased. In doing so, I could ensure that the design decisions I made at a smaller scale were based on decisions I had made at the larger scale without having to fully develop everything to the same degree. This is why the massing phase includes the entire site for the master plan while I only have detailed drawings of one of the buildings.
